Bio

P. Stewart Lanier is a self-employed organization and leadership development consultant. He founded Lanier Associates Organization Stewards, dba LAOS Consulting, in 1999 and works in collaboration with partners in diverse organizational specializations. He provides a wide range of consulting services to nonprofits, community organizations, congregations, government agencies, and businesses. He holds a Master of Science degree (with distinction) from American University’s NTL program in Organizational Development, as well as the M.Div. from Candler School of Theology, Emory University.

The focus of Mr. Lanier’s work is to assist leaders, teams, multi-stakeholder groups, boards and councils as they guide their organizations/communities through times of innovation, change and redevelopment.  This includes engaging stakeholders in developing shared vision and strategy. It often includes assessing organizational strengths and needs, developing leadership/staffing structures, mediating conflict, creating new meeting routines and behavioral guidelines, problem-solving and strategic planning.  Mr. Lanier typically works with a small steering committee that is authorized by the sponsor/official board to guide the consultation process.

Mr. Lanier began his professional career as a United Methodist pastor, and is currently actively engaged with colleagues in developing radically welcoming and inclusive policies and structures within the Methodist movement. He served as pastor of three churches. He has held clergy standing in the UCC, UMC and PC/USA denominations.

Mr. Lanier has consulted with more than a hundred nonprofit and faith based organizations. He is a consulting and training affiliate with the Interaction Institute for Social Change. He has served as the interim executive director and led executive transitions in numerous organizations in New England. He served as pastor of three churches. He has held clergy standing in the UCC, UMC and PC/USA denominations. 

Mr. Lanier is a member of the White People Challenging Racism anti-racism volunteer collective. He served on leadership circle and leadership team for several years.
